About The Shaking Mongrel

The Shaking Mongrel began with a simple idea: to speak honestly about Parkinson’s and to build a national movement that reflects the courage, humour, and resilience of the people living with it.

Where This All Started

The name “Shaking Mongrel” comes from a place of truth and grit.

  • It acknowledges the shake — the symptom everyone sees
  • but refuses to let that be the whole story.
  • The Mongrel represents the fight, the stubbornness, the spark that refuses to be dimmed.

This movement was created to bring that spirit forward, to give Parkinson’s a voice that is unmistakably Australian.

Why This Movement Exists

Parkinson’s affects more than the body. It affects identity, confidence, relationships, and how people are seen by society.

Yet despite being one of the fastest‑growing neurological conditions, Parkinson’s remains misunderstood and under‑recognised.

The Shaking Mongrel movement exists to change that — through

  • Honesty – telling the truth about what Parkinson’s really looks like
  • Visibility – refusing to hide or soften the reality
  • National momentum – building a unified voice across Ausralia.

What We Stand For

These values shape everything we do

  • Honesty — speaking openly about the realities of Parkinson’s
  • Courage — showing up, even on the hard days
  • Community — no one faces this alone
  • Momentum — pushing for national recognition and action
  • Dignity — every person deserves to be seen and heard

These aren’t slogans.
They are the lived experience of thousands of Australians.
